“What is Bad Breath? What Causes It? Why Do I Have It?”
It is the by products of this bacteria that causes the bad breath
Of course, Dr Katz has a website Therabreath where he sells various products related to teeth, mouth, and breath health. I diffinitely like his e-book. He continues to remind us that bad breath does not come from the colon, small intestine, or the stomach. It comes from bad bacteria in the mouth.

Gum disease can be divided into two areas of infection – above and below the gum line. Above the gum line periodontal disease is commonly known as gingivitis which can be treated by simple brushing and flossing for plaque, and scraping for hardened plaque called tartar. However, when the infection reached below the gum line, this could be the start of a series of serious and generally expensive gum disease. It is expensive in the sense that surgical treatments like pocket reduction, regeneration, and soft tissue graft. Pocket reduction is a process of removing below the gum line tartars and evening of the root so that gum can attach to the teeth. Regeneration is done by grafting the bone to support the teeth and reinforcing it through tissue-stimulating substances. Soft tissue graft, as its name implies, grafts tissue from any part of the mouth, particularly palates, to cover up the showed root due to rapid tissue deterioration caused by anaerobic bacteria. Any of the above gum disease treatments require application of antimicrobial substance to kill the breeding bacteria below the gum line. Antibacterial substances and surgical treatments are all currently costly.

The prevention of the progression of swollen gums can be avoided in many ways to keep your teeth and gums healthy. Such as sugar –rich foods and beverages should be avoided same as with acidic drinks such as juices and frizzy drinks. Or if you can’t resist avoiding such food and drinks just brush your teeth after an hour, wait for acid levels in the mouth to neutralize. However smoking is the most common bad habit that is linked with gum disease, and it should be avoided too if you want to be prevented from swollen gums, bad breath and other forms of gum diseases. Advance gum disease treatments are necessary when gum disease has already reached below the gum line. Examples of which are pocket reduction, root planing, regeneration, and soft tissue graft. Pocket reduction involves pulling back the gums to expose tartar layers that formed between teeth and gums. Mechanical scraping may be necessary to remove hard tartar where bacteria breed. A process employed to even out several root is root planning. It will be necessary since gum line will not cling back to rough root surface. It can be very agonizing. Regeneration corresponds to reformation bone and gingival tissue supporting structure that has been dissolved by toxins produced by anaerobic bacteria. Bone will be grafted first followed by protein injection to facilitate tissue-formation. Soft tissue graft maybe the option when the gum tissue has been destroyed down to the root. Apparently, the root will become visible and soft tissue graft will conceal it. This soft tissue may come form any soft tissue in the mouth like the palate. Any of these procedures are undesirable since it could be both painful and expensive. Before reaching any of these advanced gum disease treatments, one should be very faithful to his oral hygiene routine and gum disease protection plan.

Our mouth is in constant threat by anaerobic bacteria. Thanks to our saliva which serves as our primary agent of protection. However, failure to integrate hydration into proper oral hygiene gives chance to these germs to infect down to gingival tissue. Gum disease begins as prevention ends. Gingivitis serves as an introductory gum disease. It is manifested by bleeding gums and painful when being touched. In this stage, having bad breath is evident. Bone and gingival tissue are indications of advanced periodontitis. It is because mouth germs had already invaded in areas beyond the gum line. Its physical evidence is that most of our teeth had become visible. Chronic periodontitis worsen the condition of advanced periodontitis. In this stage, reconnecting gums to bone structure of teeth will become hard since germ-filled layers formed between them. Some serious health problems like diabetes also exhibit periodontitis as an effect. Diabetes affects proper production of saliva. This condition would become favorable for mouth germs to increase. In this case, diabetes must be treated first.
