What Do You Know About Infertility Treatments

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

Make a list of what you want to know about infertility treatments, what you need to know, and what you already know about this subject.

Many couples find themselves seeking infertility treatments because they have not been able to get pregnant within a reasonable amount of time on their own, usually considered to be a year or more of unprotected sex. Infertility treatments have become more progressive over past years, and have resulted in successful outcomes for couples desiring to have children.

It may take more than one attempt in many cases, which can run into tens of thousands of dollars for some couples, if insurance coverage is not available. Only a handful of states across the nation require health insurance carriers to cover infertility treatments, leaving couples who want to have a baby having to finance the whole expense. For such as in vitro fertilization (IVF) or gamete intra-fallopian transfer (GIFT), this could be as much as $810,000 each attempt. Some couples even take out second mortgages on their homes to provide the funds to pay for infertility treatments.

When couples first decide to consult a professional for infertility treatment, there are many questions that they want answers to right away; they want to know who has the problem. These concerns can usually be addressed quite easily with a few simple tests. Women may simply have a hormone imbalance that affects her chances of getting pregnant, which can easily checked and treated. The first thing checked from the male partner is the sperm assay, to make sure that enough are being produced.

As you continue to read this article about infertility treatments, pay attention to how they relate to one another.

If the count is low the chance of the sperm penetrating the egg is decreased. Further evaluation of both partners will be needed if nothing is found with the initial testing, at which time the couple will probably be referred to an infertility specialist. Treatment for infertility does not have to involve complicated technical procedures, and in many cases can be resolved with hormone treatments and/or surgery.

If couples do proceed with more extensive infertility treatment, they should take the time to research the infertility clinic, the reproductive endocrinologists on staff, that clinic’s success rates for various procedures and how much they cost, what insurance plans they accept, and what services are included and not included for the quoted cost.

Infertility treatments usually are based on the couple completing one cycle from beginning to end, but of course can vary depending on each individual case. Many couples find success with infertility treatments, and though results are not guaranteed, it is an option that is available. Infertility treatments are the answer to many couples’ dreams, to have a child of their own, no matter the cost, whatever it takes.

When we begin to bring this information together about infertility treatments, it starts to form the main idea of what this subject is about.

The Definition Of Downers

Monday, September 18th, 2006

In this article, we will discuss why this subject about downers is important and how you can benefit from this information.

Downers are a group of drugs that all have similar sedating qualities. The word downer is an umbrella term that includes benzodiazapines, barbiturates, and alcohol. Downers are also sometimes referred to as tranquilizers, hypnotic sedatives, or depressants. Because of the widespread social use of alcohol, it is often considered its own class of drug.

The common denominator for downers is their effect on the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid, or GABA. GABA is responsible for calming the central nervous system, slowing heart rate, breathing, and inducing sleep. Effectively, it works to counter the effects of the neurotransmitter norepinephrine, and the two work in conjunction to maintain proper heart rate, and alertness. Too much norepinephrine can lead to a number of anxiety disorders and can be responsible for panic attacks, and so downers are often prescribed to treat these conditions.

Narcotics and opiate based pain killers are sometimes lumped together with downers. While opiates do produce a sedating effect on the body, they do not directly effect the neurotransmitter GABA and are therefore a different class of drugs.

We have touched on this topic of downers, as the remainder of this article will help to further your understanding of this subject.

The most commonly prescribed downers today are the benzodiazapines, sometimes called benzos. The more popular benzodiazapines include diazepam (Valium), chlordiazepoxide (Librium), alprazolam (Xanax), lorazepam (Ativan), and clonazepam (Klonopin). These drugs are most commonly prescribe for anxiety disorders, but also find uses in preventing seizures, and as muscle relaxants.

Barbiturates were popularly used medically prior to the discovery of benzodiazapines in the 1950s. Barbiturates are chemicals derived from the chemical barbituric acid. The most common barbiturates include phenobarbital, pentobarbital, secobarbital, butalbital, butabarbital and sodium thiopental. Barbiturates are considerably more toxic than benzodiazapines, and have a much lower therapeutic index. A therapeutic index is the range between the minimally effective therapeutic dose and the lethal dose of the substance. A narrow index means that a lethal dose of the drug is not much more than the recommended dosage, and the drug is therefore risky. For these reasons, benzodiazapines have largely replaced barbiturates for use as medications. Barbiturates are still found in several pain medications, and find use as general anesthetics.

Downers all have a high potential for abuse, and are extremely addictive chemicals. As a class of drugs that includes alcohol, they are by far the most widely abused drugs on the planet. Even without alcohol, they rank amongst the most abused and addictive prescription drugs. Because of their high therapeutic index and low toxicity, benzodiazapines are especially easy to develop a physical dependence on. All downers, including alcohol, have very serious withdrawal symptoms, and should not be discontinued from everyday use without consulting a physician or medical professional first.

When we begin to bring this information together about downers, it starts to form the main idea of what this subject is about.

Crying Problems In Your Children

Thursday, September 14th, 2006

Our introduction to this topic on crying will include the basics, which will be followed by a more in depth look at this topic.

There’s a scene in the film “Lonesome Dove” after Gus (played by Richard Duval) has rescued Laurie (played by Diane Lane), who had been kidnapped and assaulted. She had been unable to speak since her rescue, and they were camping on the way to join their friends on a cattle drive to Montana.

They had enjoyed playing poker together so he set up a table and cards for them to play. The memory of better times brought her to tears. He hugged her close and told her to let them flow, to cry it all out, saying something to the effect that what happened was in the past and this was the way to keep it in the past so it wouldn’t follow her the rest of her life.

Those were pretty wise words coming from a vehicle of entertainment. Imagine what would happen if parents did that when their children started crying. We don’t like to see our children in pain, and crying is an indication of extreme distress. But if they are not at the present moment injured physically, or extremely uncomfortable due to external conditions such as cold and heat, or very hungry, maybe they just need to shed a few tears. Whatever happened to upset them is in the past, maybe the tears are a way of helping everyone insure that the bad experience fade into distant memory.

If you feel that you have not learned anything new about crying thus far, there are more information in the rest of this article.

Many of us have experienced how cathartic crying can be. You try your best to resist the tears, but when they flow there’s relief, and often a cleared head and fresh perspectives. If children are in someone’s loving arms when the tears come, and told that the bad feelings will pass, they can experience the same kind of relief.

This isn’t to say that it would be a good idea for children to be encouraged to demand attention at any whim or to cry incessantly. Parents can use their judgment about when and where it’s a good idea to pause whatever they’re doing and give a child a big hug and tell them that it’s okay to cry. If you have something pressing to do, you can even say I’ve only got five minutes, but I’m all yours for that time, and then we can talk about it later.

This, of course, pertains to families where children and adults are basically normal people. If children have behavioral problems and act out often and extremely, a professional in some aspect of psychology as well as a pediatrician should be called upon.

Over time, you will begin to understand how these concepts of crying really come together if you choose to venture into this subject further.

Others simply never make it to this point. They may feel that way at times when they are at rock bottom, but soon forget once they are high again. Story Of Cancer Treatments

Wednesday, September 6th, 2006

As you begin to read through this informative article about cancer treatments, give each point a chance to sink in before you move on to the next.

I’m watching prime-time reruns of the HBO blockbuster, Sex in the City, and am reminded of the shows brilliant finale–when Big flies to Paris to take his girl home as Mrs. Big, yes, but am reminded more immediately of my best friends cancer treatmentsas this episode is one wherein Samantha has cancer and is experimenting with wigs. The writers, directors, and performers make Sam’s having cancer manageable by integrating a strain of humor into the dialogue and actions. They also make it heart-renderingly lovely by having that FOX, Smith Jarrod (played by ), shave his gorgeous hair to show empathy for and solidarity with his lover. But thats television.

Back to my best bud, who was diagnosed with invasive endometrial adinocarcinoma: while I do not wish to profit from her cancer treatments by writing about them too explicitly, and though I have been keeping a meticulously detailed diary of her cancer treatments and side-effects, I have been given leave to discuss with you cancer treatments in generalby telling you which cancer treatments she has undergone thus far.

Almost immediately after she was diagnosed, she had a full radical hysterectomyon Valentine’s Day. This was done because the cancer was spread through her uterus, and so surgeons could investigate where the cancer was traveling: it was spreading toward the lymph nodes under the lungs.

Ask yourself a few simple questions to determine if you fully understand the concepts of cancer treatments that we have gone over so far.

Next were a series of consultations with top oncologists. The options are as terrifying or as dreadful as having to meet a mandate to vote for a country leader and finding the only choices are Adolph Hitler or Pol Pot. Actually, worse: she would have to ‘elect’ two/both of the two options. She would have ten weeks of radiation, five days a week for six weeks; and she would take two types of chemotherapy (Sysplatin and 5FU–first for four days, then weekly.

Before beginning the first of the post-surgery cancer treatments, my friend was advised to get glutamine (vitamins) and Compazine (an anti-nausea potion)to combat the Amaphostine shot. Besides having the run-around by pharmacies, she had no trouble before or after the first round (over four days, during the Academy Awards week).

Next in the series of cancer treatments was another consultation: the specialist informed her she would have internal radiation: a tampon as lethal to her as to the cancer that would be inserted and would require she lie on her back with her feet up for three hours afterward.

For the first days, my best friend was feeling fine. When we spoke by phone (as I am a long drive away and cannot be there every day), she was still clear, attentive, and laughing. After two weeks, she was sick. She had terrible bathroom problems and couldnt even stay on the phone to talk or listenthough this woman is a phone freak, using the phone 99% of the timeover using email.

Thus far, then, through her pre-, post-, and interim cancer treatments, all I can do is find hysterical sayings to send her or save to read to her over the phone when she feels better. And she will, for she is a stalwort survivor with one of the finest senses of humor around. And THAT, is purportedly the BEST of cancer treatments: laughing.

Cancer Treatment Centers

Saturday, September 2nd, 2006

There is no better way to spend an hour than to develop your mind, and through this article about Cancer Treatment Centers, you will find something interesting and entertaining to make that one of the best spent hours of the day.

If you have been diagnosed with cancer, there are a number of cancer treatment centers located throughout the country. Many of these cancer treatment centers offer a variety of treatments, both traditional and holistic, to treat not only the cancer, but the body, mind, and spirit too. Various cancer treatment centers conduct research on an ongoing basis, and patients can participate if they qualify in a number of clinical trials.

New cancer treatments are being developed all the time, and once research has progressed to where trying it on humans is warranted, clinical trials are conducted. Great results are being seen with new cancer treatments; some types of cancer that were an automatic death sentence in the past are now being treated successfully, and patients are living cancer free due to this continued research.

There are cancer treatment centers that are accessible to everyone located in most metropolitan areas. Most are affiliated with large university based hospitals, and offer the latest technology available to treat various types of cancers. These types of facilities are also research based and provide a number of new treatment options to participants in various ongoing studies.

As you continue to read this article about Cancer Treatment Centers, pay attention to how they relate to one another.

If one of these larger cancer treatment centers is not within a reasonable distance, or not accessible due to other limitations, treatment can be sought through local oncologists and cancer treatment centers. These are also good facilities, and can provide the cancer patient with professional care and support. Cancer treatment centers differ in the types of services they offer, whether they are traditional or alternative treatment based, and the corresponding fees differ as well.

It is possible to find an affordable cancer treatment center, and if you want extra amenities and a more non-traditional approach, that is available too. Some of the more upscale private facilities provide the gourmet organic meals, natural herbal spa treatments, and other pampering services to the cancer patient, in addition to deluxe room accommodations. These non-traditional cancer therapies help the patient recover and enjoy living again.

Cancer treatment centers do not have to be sterile hospital environments, with stale food, and stiff sheets. Comfort is important for all cancer patients, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Cancer patients searching for a cancer treatment center can look online at a number of options, where various cancer treatments are discussed, as well as other considerations such as diet and nutrition, and spiritual health. Cancer treatment centers all have the same goal, to provide the best care possible, to offer endless support to cancer patients and their families, and turn what can be a devastating situation into a positive experience.

At least now you know you have got useful information on Cancer Treatment Centers, and you did not have to go through hundreds of sites to find it. Now that is practical, convenient, and enlightening.
